Zooz Light Switches & Dimmers Frequently Asked Questions
NOTE: If you don't see your Z-Wave controller on the list above, please contact us before you purchase this product.
Please follow the manual guidelines and diagrams when installing your Zooz S2 switches. It's recommended that a licensed electrician performs the installation.
Check for neutral wires BEFORE purchasing. One white wire from a 14-3 romex is NOT a neutral. Ask us if you're not sure about the wiring, we'll help quickly!
How to include the 800 Series On / Off switch to your smart home hub?
1. Make sure the switch is installed within range of your Z-Wave network
2. Put your Z-Wave hub in inclusion/pairing mode
3. Tap the toggle up 3 times quickly to finalize the inclusion process
4. A new on/off switch will appear on your controller's device list
NOTE: Follow an appropriate diagram from the manual to wire the switch in a 3-way or 4-way setting with a regular electrical switch if you are looking to control one light with 2 or 3 switches. If you can't match your wiring with any of the diagrams, let us know and we'll walk you through the wiring process.
I've been tinkering with smart stuff for decades (in the 70s, I attempted to build a Vox Box switch from Radio Shack that promised to operate off of a voice command -- it didn't, but I kept tinkering). I owned an old house that rarely had neutral wires in the gang boxes, so I had to make use of smart bulbs. On the other hand, my newer house has neutral everywhere! I have been installing Zooz switches everywhere. The reliability is light years from 1970s Radio Shack, and, just as significantly, light years from smart bulbs and head-and-shoulders above other brands of smart switches.
Easy installation and inclusion into my network. Worked like a charm.
I've got a Home Assistant controller hub and a bunch of Z-Wave, Zigbee and legacy Insteon devices. The Insteon toggle for my back door light was no longer reporting its status, so I ordered a Zen73. It was a direct replacement, wiring was no problem, it fit the wall box just fine. If you can wire a light switch, you can wire this. If you hire an electrician, he won't get upset by a device he's never seen before.
Including the device in the network of z-wave stuff was no problem. I scanned and pasted the zen73 code from the packaging into Home Assistant, clicked up the switch 3x and it appeared ready to configure in a few minutes. I added the Zen73 to the scenes that had previously controlled the Insteon toggle, and I was back to where I'd been before the Insteon started to fail. Perfect. Now on to the new features for me.
Since I wanted to use the multi-click feature on the switch to trigger scenes on the hub I used the HA device configuration dialog to enable Zen73 Parameter 10 (Scene Control). So far, I've added a scene for a double up click and double down click -- intuitively it turns on and off *all* the back of the house lighting. With potential triggers of almost anything controlled by HA assigned to 3x, 4x and 5x up and down clicking, there are probably more options that I can think of uses for . . .
Hardware-wise, the response to on and off signals from the hub are *much* faster than Insteon switch it replaced. It responds in well under 100 mSec, whereas the replaced device needed over half a second to react. Doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have an automation that checks all the outside lights by turning them on and off sequentially around the house, the difference is very obvious.
NB: This device does use a Neutral wire. If you've got an *old* toggle switch that sits inline with a lamp with one wire in and one wire out and no neutral in the box, this device won't work for you. Otherwise, it's a drop in replacement anywhere you need the look of a traditional toggle that you need to automate and potentially control anything else, this is perfect.
Purchased several of the latest 800 series toggle switches. Easy install and wiring, no issues including to network and had neat little blue light status light on toggle. Performance has been great and predictable.
Love the fact I don't need to rewire or replace more than one switch in a 3-way or 4-way
