I like the ease of setup and flexibility of the routines as well as hosting them on my own hardware. I bought one for my parents and recently got another one for my house to replace a smartthings hub. The only downside is no ZigBee.
This was easy to set up and add devices. Only 4 stars for 2 reasons.
1. The mobile app feels lacking. I wish I could see historical data (temperature, humidity, etc) easier as well as customize the dashboard more. I also can not modify scenes and automations without using the web portal.
2. While I transition to my ZWave replacements, I still have a lot of Ikea and Zigbee smart bulbs I can't control with this hub without another server running and figuring out the API calls to do so. I wish there was an adapter I could plug into this to also control some ZigBee devices, making the automation migration easier on my less technical family.
Would highly recommend as long as you're willing to be dedicated to ZWave devices, which I am.
So far so good. I thought more of my SmartThings were z-Wave and would be compatible with the Z-Box. My bad. So, I've started collecting and integrating other devices with the Z-Box, not overlapping device functions too much.
I have not messed around with the Lua yet, just the devices and setting up a few room and scenes...testing. I still have a bit of a learning curve just to get more comfortable. And I expect to learn for a long while after that.
The Z-Box was easy to attach to my network. I've have hits and misses getting new devices added smoothly (all added eventually). I am having issues logging in the Z-Box 'Locally', sometimes resorting to 'Remote' mode while at home. I'm not sure why that is...maybe my Orbi mesh network? More learning curve.
The Z-Box is currently attached to my network vis Wifi. I might switch that to a wired connection using the E'net adapter and check if the login issues changes.
So far though, I like the having more low-level control of my home automation. I like the few new Z-wave devices purchased. And I think the possibilities looking forward are numerous and will keep me challenged for some time.
The Z-wave hub is truly an innovative product that is easy to set up.
So far I have moved about half of my z-wave devices over to the Z-Box from my old Vera hub. I'm very pleased with the ease of adding most of them, though some of the older devices were a bit more stubborn. Creating scenes is almost fun, dragging and dropping boxes and clicking the drop down choices. Many of the devices work so much better on the Z-Box hub, though tech support and I are still working through some issues with pin codes and other options on my door locks.
