Before installing, make sure the load does not exceed 960W for incandescent lights, 150W for CFL's and LED's, or 1800W (15A) for resistive load. Check your wiring first to confirm that you have all the following wires present in your gang box: load (most often black), line (most often black), neutral (most often white), and ground (most often green).
If you are not comfortable identifying the wiring and following the instructions, please hire a licensed electrician.
Here are some helpful wiring tips:
How to include the Zooz On / Off switch to your smart home network?
1. Bring your Z-Wave gateway hub or controller as close to the switch as possible
2. Put your Z-Wave controller in inclusion/pairing mode
3. Tap the upper paddle of the switch 3 times quickly to finalize the inclusion process
4. A new on/off switch should appear on your controller's device list
NOTE: Use a dedicated diagram from the manual to wire the switch in a 3-way setting with a regular electrical switch if you are looking to control one light with 2 or 3 switches.
Very easy to install, even for a beginner. Had trouble setting up with Home Assistant. I would say that is more a Home Assistant issue than Zooz switches. Got them up and running in no time. No issues for the 1st month of use.
The ZEN71 switch works as expected when hard-wired into my 3-way, connected to a legacy flip-switch, and controlled by my Hubitat C8. Also, the instructions were extremely helpful in rewiring the neutral to both switches.
I did have a problem getting the switch to fit my gang-box. The electrical boxes in my house (built in the late 1990s) have thick plastic around the screw posts, allowing 71.3mm of space between them. The switch housing is almost exactly 71.3mm tall, allowing a tight but successful fit. However, the placement of the ground screw on the top of the switch housing increases that height to exactly 72mm at the exact point where the housing meets the gang-box screw posts (see pictures). Notwithstanding, I was able to shave the screw post plastic in the gang-box about 1mm without impacting its integrity, thus allowing the ZEN71 to be fully inserted.
I reported my experience in a previous version of this review. To their credit, The Smartest House staff reached out to me to try to remedy the issue. Their perspective is that my gang-boxes are unique based on their experience. I have had identical boxes in the two houses which I have owned (each located in a different city but both built around the same time). The issue is worth noting in case other customers have similar experiences.
After moving into a newer house, I was pleased that the chandelier in the foyer was connected to a switch by the front door, a switch by the kitchen, and a switch upstairs. HOWEVER, I rapidly learned that only one of these switches could actually reliably control the light. I replaced one with a Zooz switch and -- voila! -- they all three (two dumb, one smart) control it perfectly. This is a great product for solving real-world problems! May God bless your smart home.
Switch came with all the parts and clear instructions for installation. Customer service was also first-rate in helping me resolve an incorrect purchase (on my part). I will definitely be a repeat customer!
Hard to do a short term review on a light switch, even a smart one. Everything worked as expected. Reason for 5 star review is the support. I was doing a 3 way install and existing wiring was a little odd. It was great to have support available to sanity check and ultimately provide custom wiring diagrams marking up the actual images I sent. And they were quick to respond. Just some of the best support I've ever had anywhere. Will always by Zooz whenever possible now.
